FBI warns iPhone Android users, Federal investigators say there has been a significant cyberattack, and they suggest something using some of you using encryption to protect and keep your messages private and protected. Cybersecurity expert Patrick Jones, VP of cybersecurity sales, says using the correct apps can be what protect you.
Your information from being leaked. We have had some very serious cyber attacks here in the country, and as a result, the FBI and other federal agencies are warning Americans to be very vigilant and careful with their telecommunications.
Their text messages. And they’re suggesting some things we do. So, first of all, what occurred that alerted or sent up the red flag for the FBI? Patrick. So China’s at it again. There’s a cyber attack that recently occurred days ago. It’s classified as cyber espionage at that point in time.
It is a targeted attack specific to telecom organizations looking to spy and steal your data specifically to your mobile devices. That is. And so as a result of that, that breach that we saw, what is the federal government telling the American people to do? As of right now, the federal government is telling them to use alternative methods of texting.
Notice it’s texting. So you have applications such as signal, WhatsApp, telegram. Those are all encrypted applications that you can send safe and sound text messages to your loved ones. Now there is something that you should be. You should be alerted of. One thing is, if you have a Apple iPhone and you’re communicating to an Android end user, then there’s cause for concern there.
So you still need to utilize the encrypted applications. Now what could go wrong between an Apple and an Android user right. That’s going to cause me problems. I’m the only Android user in my group of friends. Yeah, so there’s a known key, right? It’s a key
that essentially shakes hands with one another. So if you’re in an Apple device, whenever you send a text message to another Apple end user, the text message is then blue, which means that encryption that handshake of a security token, has been accepted between the two.
Now, notice whenever you are interacting with an Apple user on an Android phone, the text comes across as green. You’re

not in network. Therefore, that cybersecurity token okay, that handshake if you will, stating that they know the carriers that doesn’t exist.
So that’s that’s what happens there. Now these alternatives first of all, should everyone be concerned. Because most people most people are not sending sensitive text messages.
Some are sure some are, but most are not. So if you’re not sending anything sensitive, should you be concerned about this? Well, if you’re not necessarily sending anything sensitive, there’s still cause for concern, right? Because there’s still privacy data laws and acts within the US. You don’t want a foreign land to have access to your meaningful conversations.
The reason behind that is it’s not just text messages, it’s also phone calls. Isaiah. So what China now has access to is who you were talking to. The name of the individual that you were corresponding with. In addition to the geo IP and or location of the individual in yourself when you were communicating. So that’s a bit deeper than just text messages. And for all of all of you that are sending text messages with meaningful data, there’s over a million individuals.
That’s confirmed that they’re confident that their information has been confiscated. So yes, everyone should be alarmed. Got it. And in the remaining time, let’s talk about those alternatives. I’m very familiar with WhatsApp, sure, but many times when I see send people or individuals a text on what WhatsApp they’re not part of that. So they would have to download it and get that app on their phone. So that becomes a headache.
And do you have to pay? Obviously WhatsApp is free, but do you have to pay for the other encrypted messaging services that you brought up? Sure. So telegram, WhatsApp, signal free. Okay. Yes. You have to do a little bit of legwork and it’s not much. It’s essentially downloading the application.
However, you now have a peace of mind that your communication, whoever you’re talking to via text message, is actually going through secure and the information will not be stolen.
